Christmas Tree Fires

Every year someone's home burns down due to a Christmas tree fire.  Applying a Flame Retardant Mixture to your tree is one of the safety  measures you can do at home to help prevent such tragedies.

Method One

bullet5 tablespoons Borax (20 Mule Team cleaner)
bullet1/4 cup Epsom Salts (from drug store)
bullet2 quarts water

Apply mixture to Christmas tree branches, decorative greens and wreaths using a misting spray bottle or pump garden sprayer.

Method 2

One way you can reduce the risks of a tree fire is to use a flame retardant to soak or spray on your tree.

Here are the ingredients for a flame retardant spray.

Everything here costs about $10 to buy, although you may already have the ingredients in your closet!

Ingredients

bullet2 cups Karo syrup
bullet2 pinches epsom salts
bullet2 teaspoons chelate iron
bullet2 ounces bleach
bullet1/2 teaspoon borax
bullet2 gallons water

Just mix all the ingredients. You can either soak your tree's base in the mixture (best!) or spray it directly onto the branches and needles.

Method 3

Use a commercial product like Tree Safe, Tree Seal, Flame-No-More, No Burn, etc.
