Tank Truck Specialist

This 24-hour class is designed for the Responder who needs the increased knowledge in responding to tank truck emergencies. This class covers tank truck anatomy and design, damage assessment, repair, and transloading.

This class meets NFPA 472, Chapter 6, Private sector specialist employee A and 29CFR1910.120(q) requirements.

Upon completion of this class, you will be able to:

bulletKnow how to implement the employer's emergency response plan.
bulletKnow the classification, identification, and verification of known and unknown materials by using field survey instruments and equipment.
bulletBe able to function within an assigned role in the incident command system.
bulletKnow how to select and use proper specialized chemical personal protective equipment provided to the hazardous materials technician.
bulletUnderstand hazard and risk assessment techniques
bulletBe able to perform advance control, containment, and/or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources, and personal protective equipment available with the unit.
bulletUnderstand and implement decontamination procedures.
bulletUnderstand termination procedures.
bulletUnderstand basic chemical and toxicological terminology and behavior.

bulletIdentify the non-pressure cargo tanks, describe their construction features, and name the hazards associated with each.
bulletIdentify the low pressure cargo tanks, describe their construction features, and name the hazards associated with each.
bulletIdentify the medium pressure cargo tanks, describe their construction features, and name the hazards associated with each.
bulletIdentify the high pressure cargo tanks, describe their construction features, and name the hazards associated with each.
bullet Locate and identify the components of a cargo tank specification plate.
bulletIdentify and explain major factors that affect tank damage severity.
bulletDescribe common leak points on tank trucks.
bulletList and describe types of damage that may occur to tank trucks during collisions or wrecks.
bulletExplain the inspection process for damaged tank trucks.
bulletDescribe when transloading hazardous materials may be required.
bulletDescribe common concerns when transloading hazardous materials.
bulletUnderstanding static electricity - bonding and grounding.
