Hazardous Materials Branch Officer

This 16 hour class is designed to provide the Hazardous Materials Branch Officer with the skills and knowledge of how to manage a hazardous materials incident. This class meets NFPA 472 2002 Chapter 9. The student must be certified as a Hazardous Materials Technician. Certification from the National Fire Pro Board can be obtained for this Class.

These are people who will manage the hazardous materials response of an incident. The following information will be stressed using classroom and tabletop exercises.
 
bulletAnalyze a hazardous materials incident to determine the magnitude of the problem by estimating the potential outcomes within the endangered area.
bulletPlan a response within the capabilities and competencies of available personnel, personal protective equipment, and control equipment.
bulletImplement a response to favorably change the outcomes consistent with the local emergency response plan and the organization’s standard operating procedures.
bulletEvaluate the progress of the planned response to ensure that the response objectives are being met safely, effectively, and efficiently and adjust the plan of action accordingly by evaluating the progress of the plan of action
bulletProper termination of an incident.
